Devotion to Jesus

“Then Jesus said to them, ‘The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.'” – Luke 6:5

When the Pharisees approached Jesus—regarding his disciples picking grain to eat on the Sabbath—they had no idea who they were talking to. They accused Jesus and his followers of breaking the commandment of God, and in so doing revealed their ignorance and hypocrisy. They were so blinded by their observance of the written Word of God, that they completely overlooked the Living Word of God standing before them.

How many times do we devote ourselves to things pertaining to God, and wind up neglecting our devotion to God, Himself?  It seem that we often get caught in the trappings of religious activity. We start following the rules, rather than the “Ruler”.

Jesus didn’t die for us to follow a Religion—He died to free us from religion, and bring us to relationship with God, through him!

Jesus is—and always should be—at the very center of our devotion. He is the reason we gather together; the reason we worship; and the reason we serve. May our love for Christ be our solitary focus, and may His love for us be reflected in all we do!

In Christ,
Pastor Ken
