Overcoming Worry

In the sixth chapter of Matthew, Jesus is speaking to his disciples and the crowd that gathered. Just after he instructs them how they should pray, he gives them a difficult instruction, “Do not worry about this life.”

But then we remember who it is that is giving this instruction, Jesus. If he is telling us to do something, then he will always empower us to do it!

He tells us the secret to overcoming worry in this life is to not focus our attentions toward the things we worry about, but rather to focus our energies toward seeking the Kingdom of God. This is a matter of faith and trust in the Fatherly nature of God and the dynamics of understanding the nearness of the Kingdom.

Jesus tells us not to worry, because he knows His Father! He is inviting us to know God as “Our Father” too. When we experience the revelation of the fullness of God as Father, we realize that we need not worry or be anxious about anything. Instead we can direct all the energy we spend on worry, to engage in the activities of the Kingdom and to seek God’s rule and reign in our lives.

It’s time for us to stop telling God how big our problems are, and begin telling our problems how BIG our God is!

In Christ,
Pastor Ken
